Agriculture
Canadian farmers are among the most innovative, efficient, and environmentally responsible in the world. Every day, they work to feed families across the country and around the globe, yet instead of being supported, they are being punished by a government that prioritizes ideology over common sense.
For nearly a decade, the Trudeau-Carney Liberals has made it harder for farmers to succeed. Burdensome regulations, endless red tape, and punitive taxes, especially the carbon tax, are driving up costs and making Canadian agriculture less competitive. Farmers have been forced to pay millions just to dry their grain, heat their barns, and grow our food. Meanwhile, fertilizer costs have skyrocketed, with expenses increasing by over 54% in a single year. These added costs don’t just hurt farmers, they drive up the price of groceries for every Canadian.
Conservatives believe in a different path, one that recognizes the incredible work farmers do and supports them with policies based on science, not activism. We will scrap the carbon tax and eliminate unnecessary regulatory barriers that hold our farmers back. We will ensure agencies like the CFIA and PMRA work with farmers, not against them, and that Canada remains aligned with our key trading partners instead of following Europe’s disastrous Farm to Fork model. The truth is Canadian agriculture is already leading the way in sustainability. Thanks to modern practices like precision agriculture, no-till farming, and 4R nutrient stewardship, our farmers have reduced emissions over the last two decades while increasing yields.
Canada is the fifth-largest exporter of agricultural and agri-food products, with 80% of what we grow being sent to feed the world. At a time when global food security is one of the most pressing issues we face, we should be doing everything we can to unleash the full potential of Canadian agriculture. That means cutting red tape, ensuring a competitive tax and regulatory environment, and removing obstacles to growth instead of creating new ones.
Our farmers don’t need more government interference, they need a government that trusts them, supports them, and champions them on the global stage. With the right leadership, Canada can be a powerhouse in agriculture, feeding the world while strengthening our economy at home. The world needs what we produce, and Conservatives will make sure our farmers have the tools they need to succeed.
